 My name is Robert McKay.
I am a very experienced criminal defense attorney.
For the past 19 years, my practice has been limited exclusively to defending people accused of committing crimes.
During my career as a defense lawyer I have:
- defended and tried several hundred criminal cases from Aggravated Murder to misdemeanor thefts and DUI's.
- successfully defended the only man ever released from Death Row in the State of Washington, Benjamin Harris, at his 1997 trial in Pierce County Superior Court. See www.truthinjustice.org/benny-harris.htm.
- tried one of the very first "Three Strikes" cases filed in Washington.
- defended and tried cases alleging Aggravated Murder, Murder First Degree, Murder Second Degree, and Felony Murder.
- successfully tried many other felony cases including charges of Robbery, Assault, Sex Offenses, Burglary, Drug Possession, Drug Delivery, Drug Manufacturing, Firearm Cases, Thefts, Possessing Stolen Property, and Frauds.
- tried over 120 felony and misdemeanor cases in juvenile courts.
- defended or tried over 145 misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor cases, including DUI's, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing, Unlawful Display of Firearms, Assault Fourth Degree, Harassment, Malicious Mischief and Domestic Violence Assaults, to name only a few.
- tried felony and misdemeanor cases in the Superior and District Courts of Thurston, Pierce, King, Snohomish, and Island Counties. I have also tried misdemeanor cases in many Municipal Courts, including Seattle Muni, Marysville, Black Diamond, Lynnwood, Milton, Oak Harbor, Mukilteo, and Everett, to name just a few.
- successfully represented dozens of clients at Probation Hearings in District and Superior Courts;
- represented many clients either petitioning for or opposing No Contact and Anti-Harassment Orders.
- written appeals for Division Two of the Washington State Court of Appeals and the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
- argued appellate issues before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals for 9th Circuit.
