In Washington, felony offenses are categorized at three different seriousness levels:

Class “A” Felonies: These include Murder, Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, Most Sex Offenses, Assault First Degree, Kidnapping, Robbery First Degree, Burglary First Degree, Arson—the maximum penalty is life in prison.

Class “B” Felonies: These include Assault Second Degree, Robbery Second Degree, Burglary Second Degree, Residential Burglary, Delivery of Methamphetamine, Cocaine, or Heroin, Identity Theft First Degree, Imtimidating a Witness, Lesser Sex Offenses, Possession of Stolen Property First Degree, Theft First Degree, Felon in Possession of A Firearm First Degree, Trafficking in Stolen Property, and Vehicular Assault, to name just a few. Maximum penalty—10 years in prison.

Class “C” Felonies: These include Theft Second Degree, Forgery, Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Permission Second Degree, Possession of Cocaine or Heroin, Cultivation of Marijuana, Possession of over 40 grams of Marijuana, Assault Third Degree, Malicious Mischief Second Degree, Possession of Stolen Property Second Degree, some sex offenses, Witness Tampering, Vehicle Prowling First Degree, Voyeurism, and many other offenses. Maximum penalty - 5 years in prison.
